Where did the idea for the book come from?

In summer 2014 I did the first version of a “paper doll computer”, a computer made out of paper a kid would first assemble and then design their own apps. The first drawing for the book, and the key image that helped me come up with the story was the spread where Ruby is sitting a little bit confused inside of the computer, surrounded by the blueish glow of the bits. Ruby’s sidekick on the journey is the white Mouse, because Alice in Wonderland is one of my favourite books and C.S Lewis’ way of combining logic and imagination has always inspired me.
